46 Years Ago, This Clint Eastwood Film Title Spoiled the Ending!

Certain movie titles reveal key details about their endings. For instance, this was the case with a 1979 action film featuring Clint Eastwood, directed by Don Siegel.

SPOILERS – Caution, the following article contains potential spoilers. If you prefer to remain unaware of such details, please refrain from reading further…

At the end of “Back to the Future,” Doc and Marty indeed soar “into the future.” When “The Last Samurai” concludes, it’s evident that Tom Cruise is indeed the last surviving samurai. And in the final scene of “The Game,” it’s confirmed that Michael Douglas’s entire ordeal was indeed just a game.

Clint Eastwood at Alcatraz

Similar to the examples mentioned earlier, some films do not conserve their element of surprise, offering up a crucial piece of information right in the title.

This is particularly true for a famous film by Don Siegel, starring Clint Eastwood a few years after the release of “Dirty Harry.” Aptly titled “Escape from Alcatraz,” the film narrates the story of Frank Morris, a criminal known for his exceptional intelligence and history of multiple escapes.

Incarcerated in the notorious Alcatraz island prison off the coast of San Francisco, Frank attempts once more to flee this impenetrable fortress… and as the film’s title promises, he succeeds!

How Will He Escape?

Along with three fellow inmates, using a paper mâché dummy to camouflage his escape and crafting a makeshift raft from life vests, Frank indeed manages to make his getaway right under the noses of his guards.

An outcome that every viewer could anticipate from the beginning of the film, simply by reading the two words emblazoned on the movie poster. Nevertheless, Don Siegel’s film still offers delicious suspense and genuine tension. Indeed, we all know Clint Eastwood will escape from Alcatraz. But how, and with whom? That remains the question.
