Directed by Pascal Bonitzer and starring Fabrice Luchini, “Victor Like Everyone Else” is a film tribute to Victor Hugo, set to hit theaters next spring. Check out the trailer now.
French cinema has always had a penchant for literary adaptations! Following “Monte-Cristo,” a slew of films based on novels and classic literature continues to flood the screens, including two adaptations of “Les Misérables!”
Victor Hugo is more popular than ever, as a new film paying tribute to the novelist is scheduled for release in cinemas in March next year.
“Victor Like Everyone Else” (previously titled “Hugo”) is a dramatic comedy that honors Victor Hugo, featuring Fabrice Luchini in the lead role. He is joined by Chiara Mastroianni, Marie Narbonne, Suzanne de Baecque, Louise Orry-Diquéro, and Iris Bry.
The story follows Robert Zuchini, an actor who channels Victor Hugo. Offstage, he carries a gentle melancholy, but each night he captivates audiences with his love for words. Everything changes when his estranged daughter reappears in his life. Could loving be better than admiring, just this once?
Pascal Bonitzer’s Back-to-Back Film Releases
These upcoming projects mark Pascal Bonitzer’s 11th feature film. He has a busy year ahead with two consecutive releases: “Maigret and the Dead Lover” on February 18, 2026, and “Victor Like Everyone Else” on March 11, 2026.
A Unique Genesis
The creation of “Victor Like Everyone Else” is notably unique. It was initially written by filmmaker Sophie Fillières, who passed away on July 31, 2023.
Pascal Bonitzer, who was Sophie Fillières’ life partner, took over the project that she had started working on five years ago. Originally, she was to direct the film herself, but her prolonged illness ultimately led to her passing almost exactly two years ago. In an interview with Le Film Français, producer Charles Gillibert (CG Cinema) stated, “In consultation with Agathe Bonitzer and Sophie’s family, we decided to hand over the direction to Pascal Bonitzer.”
This is the second of Sophie Fillières’ projects to be continued posthumously, following “My Life, My Face,” which was released in September 2024.
“Victor Like Everyone Else” starring Fabrice Luchini will premiere on March 11, 2026.
