What’s it About?
Shaï and Djeneba, both 20 years old and childhood friends, are camp counselors this summer. They head to the Drôme with a group of kids who, like them, grew up around the Place des Fêtes towers in Paris. On the brink of adulthood, they face decisions that will shape their futures and redefine their friendship.
Here’s What the Press Thinks:
According to Bande à part:
“A sunny and generous feel-good movie, the second feature by Lise Akoka and Romane Guéret shines with its vitality, humor, and inclusive sensitivity. A refreshing take on the summer camp film genre, featuring an exceptional cast.” By Olivier Pélisson – 5/5
According to Marie Claire:
“My Brother” bursts with colorful energy, chaotic unity, and inevitable spats that end in tears, leaving its characters, both young and old, feeling prematurely matured over the course of a summer.” By Emily Barnett – 5/5
According to La Voix du Nord:
“A group film where everyone gets their chance, My Brother showcases remarkable personalities and confirms the talented nature of its two filmmakers.” By Christophe Caron – 4/5
According to Le Journal du Dimanche:
“It’s funny, touching, full of life and truth. A film with plenty of heart, to which we gladly give our own.” By Bap. T. – 4/5
According to Les Inrockuptibles:
“In ‘My Brother,’ adults are not depicted as big kids, nor are children shown as little adults. Lise Akoka and Romane Guéret manage to portray men and women with the innocence—not rediscovered but never lost—of childhood.” By Carl Arnaud – 4/5
According to Première:
“My Brother excels in every aspect, a precise coming-of-age story and a social comedy that also serves as a laboratory exploring an entire social stratum through a sample of these millions of children familiar only with concrete towers.” By Chloe Delos- Eray – 4/5
According to Télé 7 Jours:
“Featuring young actors of astounding naturalness, a truly refreshing burst of joy and vitality.” By Isabelle Magnier – 4/5
According to Cahiers du Cinéma:
“From laughter to pathos, the gesture that seemed to want to break the bourgeois mold with a touch of popular language turns out to keep one step ahead of its characters and maintain controlled freedom. Under the banner of coexistence, the audience is invited to share this paternalistic smile, to marvel at a young black girl singing a Barbara song at the camp karaoke.” By Romain Lefebvre – 2/5
