11 years since its initial broadcast on HBO, “Game of Thrones” fans vividly recall the Rains of Castamere, the ninth episode of season 3, which featured the horrifying massacre of the Starks at a feast in the castle of the vile Walder Frey.
Regarded as one of the best episodes of the entire series, this grim chapter indeed earned an average rating of 9.9/10 on IMDB, tying it for first place in the series alongside Battle of the Bastards (season 6, episode 9) and The Winds of Winter (season 6, episode 10).
The Original Daario Naharis
Although he did not take part in the major events of that episode – those involving House Stark – actor Ed Skrein was very much part of the action, valiantly fighting soldiers from Yunkai alongside Jorah Mormont and Grey Worm, while dressed as Daario Naharis.
However, like several other stars of the series, the British actor did not complete his journey with Daario. Indeed, he portrayed the character only in the last three episodes of season 3, before being replaced by Dutch actor Michiel Huisman, who took over the role in seasons 4, 5, and 6 of Game of Thrones.
“I Intended to Stay.”
One might think that Ed Skrein voluntarily left the HBO series to focus on other projects, particularly on The Transporter Refueled (where he took over from Jason Statham), but as he stated in a 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly, that was not the case:
“No, that’s not true. That’s what was reported in the press, but it was a bit more political than that,” he mysteriously said.
“My plan was always to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul. I would have loved that. It was a wonderful experience, but political reasons led our paths to diverge. From there, I just thought: ‘Okay, look forward, stay positive. Keep calm and carry on.'”
Whatever the reasons for Ed Skrein’s departure, he certainly bounced back, as he was seen in several blockbusters, including playing the villain Ajax in Deadpool, appearing in Alita: Battle Angel, and more recently in the Rebel Moon saga (where he was reunited with… Michiel Huisman).
