Michèle Laroque Casts International Star in Her Upcoming Movie!

At the 51st César Awards, Michèle Laroque unveiled her upcoming project featuring a surprising cast, including American singer Ben Harper as the director!

It was an unexpected announcement! Last night, on the red carpet of the 51st César Awards, Michèle Laroque shared that she is currently working on her fourth feature film as a director.

For this project, the actress and filmmaker was joined by American singer-songwriter and performer Ben Harper. Known for his hit “Steal My Kisses” and having recently ventured into acting with the series “Extrapolations,” Harper will portray a fisherman and musician determined to fight for his rights.

This will be Michèle Laroque’s first English-language film following her comedies “Brillantissime” (2017), “Chacun chez soi” (2019), and “Alors on danse” (2021).

Ben Harper’s French Film Debut

Having moved to France in 2022, Ben Harper is set to make his debut in French cinema. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

While specific details about the film’s plot remain undisclosed, the theme hinted at by Michèle Laroque suggests it might tackle ecological issues and the defense of local communities, topics that are important to the musician.

Ben Harper is currently featured in the documentary “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley,” directed by Amy Berg, which focuses on the life of the musical prodigy Jeff Buckley who passed away at age 30.

Meanwhile, Michèle Laroque can be seen in “L’Infiltrée” by Ahmed Sylla and the latest season of “Emily in Paris” on Netflix. She will also appear in Gérard Jugnot’s new film, “Mauvaise Pioche,” starting April 1st.
