Vincent Macaigne is back on the big screen in a comedy, just two weeks following the release of “The Doll.” This time, he’s joined by Laure Calamy, Mélanie Thierry, and Lyes Salem in “What is Love,” directed by Fabien Gorgeart. The plot revolves around Fred, who asks his ex-wife to annul their church wedding so he can remarry in a religious ceremony. What starts as a simple request spirals into a chaotic family adventure all the way to Rome.
His top-rated film is…
Having first made his mark in theater, Vincent Macaigne has been a prominent figure in French cinema for over a decade. Audience Reviews
Fan_de_cinoche (5/5): “An absolute masterpiece, a heart-wrenching film (borderline unbearable at times, be warned). Lucky to see it in a premiere with the film’s entire crew and the real-life hero doctors of this story. This film is a must-see, and it’s worth buying a ticket to support those who took risks (facing death threats) to show that it’s possible, that the audience is there, moved, grateful, and committed. Isaach de Bankolé is outstanding, and Vincent Macaigne is impressive. All the actresses are heroic, embodying roles that have elevated them… and vice versa. A must-see, and share it with others as an act of human brotherhood.“
Amour13 (5/5): “This film is a shock, a big shock, and from the first second, you are gripped by the senseless sexual violence, followed by a moving story of raped women. This film needs to be seen so that everyone on this planet becomes aware of what is happening.“
FABIEN SIQUET (5/5): “A very powerful tribute to what women endure in Congo! One can only bow before such accuracy and modesty! This film is truly excellent! Isaach de Bankolé, I believe, has just played the role of his life! And what about Vincent Macaigne? Impeccable as always! Definitely a must-see film!“
Barth (5/5): “A great film of humanity, which manages to address a very difficult subject without ever resorting to cheap emotion. The visual and sound direction is meticulous throughout, the actors are excellent, and the film gives real space to its superb original music which wonderfully complements the plot. We feared a tear-jerker on its dramatic and shocking subject, yet it is the moments of happiness and pride that bring us to tears. Probably one of the best films of the year, a must-see!“
Anne G (5/5): “More than a film, a heartrending and infuriating reality about the systemic violence against women and children in the world’s indifference. Thankfully, the healers are there. A necessary film, thank you.“
