Stranger Things Star Joins New John Wick Film Without Keanu Reeves!

The cast for Caine, the latest spin-off from the John Wick series directed by Donnie Yen, is shaping up with a well-known Stranger Things actor joining the action-packed franchise!

Following Ballerina, the first spin-off from the John Wick series released in 2025, another derivative film is set to emerge soon. Announced in January 2025, this project kicked off last April and will be entirely led by martial arts superstar Donnie Yen! He will both direct and star in the upcoming feature currently titled: John Wick: Caine.

It was already known that the actor would reprise his role from John Wick 4. Caine is a blind assassin, exceptionally formidable and a former friend of Baba Yaga. In the plot, he is compelled by the High Table to track and eliminate John Wick to protect his daughter. Despite his blindness, Caine compensates with extraordinary hearing and reflexes, reminiscent of Daredevil.

A favorite among fans of the series, this martial arts expert will now have his own movie, alongside Rina Sawayama, who plays Akira Shimazu, the daughter of Koji Shimazu (Hiroyuki Sanada in John Wick 4), the slain director of the Continental in Osaka.

According to Deadline, a new face is set to appear in the franchise, familiar to fans of Stranger Things! He is Dacre Montgomery, who portrayed Billy Hargrove in season 3. For now, the specifics of the 31-year-old actor’s role are under wraps. Will he take on the daunting task of stepping into the shoes of the main villain, as Bill Skarsgård did in John Wick 4?

While Montgomery’s role and the plot details remain secretive, this new film is expected to continue the narrative arc of Caine following the events of the fourth installment of the series led by Keanu Reeves. With Caine now freed from his obligations to the High Table, what new adventures will he embark on?

Epic Showdown on the Horizon?

Speculation arises from the post-credits scene in John Wick 4, where Caine was about to reunite with his daughter; Akira then confronts him seeking to avenge her father. Rumors suggest a monumental duel between the two characters before they might be forced to join forces against a greater threat.

The project is already stirring excitement among action cinema enthusiasts: Donnie Yen aims to blend the sleek and brutal aesthetic of the John Wick saga with the edginess, choreographic precision, and physical virtuosity of classic Hong Kong martial arts films.

On paper, this is an absolutely thrilling promise. All that’s missing is an official trailer to gauge the scale of the spectacle, though the film, still without an official release date, appears to be aiming for a 2027 release.

The screenplay is penned by Mattson Tomlin, writer of the upcoming Batman 2 and the adaptation of the comic BRZRKR created by Keanu Reeves, along with Michael McGrale.
