While promoting the mini-documentary series “Visionaries” about his passion for motorcycles, Keanu Reeves discussed the potential continuation of the “John Wick” series, possibly disappointing some fans.
The future of a fifth “John Wick” film is always a guessing game: one day the answer is yes, the next day it’s no.
Last December, during the promotion of Sonic 3, where he voices Shadow, Reeves seemed inclined towards the possibility, saying “you can never say never.” However, he quickly tempered his enthusiasm with comments about the current state of his knees, especially since he turned 60 last September.
Now, the likelihood seems less favorable as the release of “Visionaries” in the United States approaches.
Though it wasn’t exactly the focus, the question of a “John Wick 5” inevitably came up, and Reeves’ response might let down the fans: “You know, the character is dead,” he reminded Extra TV, for those who forgot the ending of the last film. “He died in John Wick 4.”
“I know people can be brought back to life in Hollywood; it’s part of its history. But at this moment, there are no plans [for a fifth film].” At least for now, as his next statement could very well contradict this one.
This might change around the release of “Ballerina,” a spin-off led by Ana de Armas, in which John Wick will make a longer or shorter appearance, since the plot takes place between episodes 3 and 4 of his own franchise.
Scheduled for release on June 4, the film directed by Len Wiseman might serve as a way for the series to continue, especially if Keanu Reeves’ body can’t keep up.
Meanwhile, the fourth “John Wick” will be shown in Chinese theaters starting March 14, two years after its global release, and remarkably without any cuts, which is extremely rare for an R-rated movie in the United States.
