In an interview with Letterboxd last year, actor Keanu Reeves discussed his four favorite films, including a comedy that made him roar with laughter when he saw it in theaters.
Released in theaters in 1972, the dramatic comedy “Harold and Maude” tells the story of a twenty-year-old boy who experiences a pure and reciprocal love with a woman fifty-nine years his senior. This film is a cult classic beloved by none other than Keanu Reeves.
In an interview last year with Letterboxd, Keanu Reeves (who turned down playing a Marvel villain) briefly mentioned the film “Harold and Maude,” which he considers a pinnacle of humor. “I was a teenager and frequented movies when I saw Harold and Maude,” the actor stated. “There’s this scene with his arm. He’s at this appointment, pulls out a hatchet, and starts hitting his arm with it. I’ve never laughed so hard in a theater, ever. It was sublime.”
Below, the scene in question from “Harold and Maude” shows the main male character (Bud Cort, who passed away last February) hitting his arm, out of frustration, with a hatchet and… chopping off his hand!
During this interview with Letterboxd, Keanu Reeves revealed what his four favorite films are. Besides “Harold and Maude,” the star of the John Wick series mentioned other iconic films: David Lynch’s “Eraserhead,” “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,” and Abel Gance’s “Napoleon.”
