Will Charlie Survive? Ending of ‘Over the Years’ Explained!

Warning: spoilers ahead! If you haven’t completed the series “Through the Years,” you might want to skip this, as we’re diving into the finale right now!

Hold up! If you haven’t watched all eight episodes of “Through the Years” on Prime Video, consider this your spoiler alert, because we’re about to discuss the series finale. And it’s safe to say that the final episode ends with a massive cliffhanger that will definitely leave fans wanting more.

Charlie Collapses in the Final Moments of Through the Years

As Charlie (Michael Bradway) gazes at a photograph of Percy (Sadie Soverall), Sam (Matt Cornett), and himself during a summer spent at Barry’s Bay, he suddenly collapses, struck by a heart attack. This shocking moment leaves us wondering about our hero’s fate! First off, it’s important to note that this scene doesn’t even exist in the novels.

The first book ends on a hopeful note with Sam proposing to Percy. The second book introduces a brand-new character and later reveals that Charlie has heart issues. Remember, the brothers’ father also died from a heart condition at a young age.

In the sequel, Sam and Charlie realize that the condition is genetic and undergo testing to see if they are at risk. Sam, who has become a doctor, naturally wants to ensure they are both healthy. However, throughout most of “One Golden Summer,” the sequel to “Every Summer After,” this plot is put on the back burner.

Will Charlie Survive in Through the Years?

This storyline only becomes central at the very end of the book. While we can reveal that Charlie does survive, it doesn’t mean the series will follow the book exactly. Like the first novel, significant changes are likely to be made to further develop the characters.
