Exciting news for fans of fantasy sagas! The beginning of 2027 will be marked by the theatrical release of a live-action adaptation of a bestseller, the first images of which have just been released.
In 2018, a fantasy saga called “The Destiny of Orïsha” (Children of Blood and Bone in its original version) was a hit in bookstores. Authored by Nigerian-American novelist Tomi Adeyemi, this globally successful novel, which sold millions of copies, is set to hit the silver screen. Its title? “The Kingdom of Orïsha.” And the great news is that the very first live-action images of the film have just been unveiled!
First Look at “The Kingdom of Orïsha”
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood — known for her success with “The Woman King” — this feature film, set to release on January 13, 2027, much to the dismay of streaming platforms, will immerse audiences in the epic world of Orïsha, a young woman who risks everything to restore the magic that was brutally taken from her people. With the support of her brother, Orïsha will join forces with the king’s daughter and son to fulfill her mission.
Echoing the success of Tomi Adeyemi’s literary saga (already being compared to the renowned J.K. Rowling), “The Kingdom of Orïsha” will highlight West African culture and mythology. According to the first snapshots shared by the production company Paramount Pictures France, the costumes, sets, and atmosphere of the film adaptation promise to be spectacular.
A Stellar Cast for the Adaptation
Among the actors joining this highly anticipated project is Idris Elba, who will portray Lekan, a key character in this fantastical universe. Alongside him are many familiar faces such as Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Viola Davis (star of the series Murder), Regina King (Watchmen), Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give – The Hate We Give), Damson Idris (F1® THE MOVIE), and many other celebrated names. It’s clear, this is likely one of the most impressive casts for a fantasy film in recent years.
“The Kingdom of Orïsha” hits theaters on January 13, 2027. So, patience!
