Florence Foresti and Kad Merad Tackle the Mafia in Must-See French Film!

The mafia comedy “A Bastard Family” is now streaming on Prime Video!

Just a year after his romantic comedy “Love is Overrated,” director Mourad Winter reunites with his actor trio – Hakim Jemili, Laura Felpin, and Benjamin Tranié – for a mafia comedy as vibrant as it is irreverent: “A Bastard Family,” available today on Prime Video.

What’s it About?

Following a shootout that nearly kills his father, Mohamed (played by Hakim Jemili) discovers that his father, a notorious womanizer, had hidden from him the existence of Maurice (Benjamin Tranié) and Morgane (Laura Felpin), two unknown siblings with fiery personalities.

Worse still, the event forces Mohamed to live with his newfound siblings and manage the bar “Chez Momo,” a notorious den of vice in Paris. Amid scams, slot machines, and sibling squabbles, they come to learn that blood ties are messy and hard to clean up.

Who’s in the Cast?

To round out this trio of quirky characters, Mourad Winter enlisted two prominent figures in French comedy, Kad Merad and Florence Foresti, who play roles unlike their usual ones: an old blind sage and a controlling madam, respectively!

Alongside them, the film features rising French comedy star Alexandre Kominek and the seasoned actor David Ayala, a talented performer known for his supporting roles in various French films (Mercy, The Gold, Silver, and Blood Awards, etc.).

A Refreshing Comedy

Just as he did in “Love is Overrated,” where he played with the conventions of romantic comedy, Mourad Winter now tackles mafia fiction tropes to deliver a story about family reconciliation, enriched with thoughtful reflections on the complex heritage of Algerian immigrants’ descendants.

Set in a charmingly vintage ambiance of the late 1990s, this comedy, although not exactly family-friendly, is sure to resonate across generations.
