Black Panther 3: Chadwick Boseman’s Successor Revealed, Starred in Famous Sci-Fi Saga!

The legacy of Wakanda is securely continued! During the Comic-Con in San Diego, Marvel Studios surprised everyone by announcing the new Black Panther. British actor David Jonsson, 33, known from the sci-fi movie Alien: Romulus, will take over the renowned suit in Black Panther 3.

Standing on the Hall H stage alongside director Ryan Coogler, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke, David Jonsson was introduced as the fresh face of the franchise. He will portray the son of T’Challa, a character previously played by the late Chadwick Boseman in the first two films.

The Son of T’Challa

This announcement was particularly symbolic for Marvel, as the saga had to reinvent itself after the loss of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, took over the Black Panther role following her brother’s death in the film’s universe.

The movie also introduced Toussaint (portrayed by young Divine Love Konadu-Sun), the son of T’Challa and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o). The young boy’s Wakandan name is T’Challa, in homage to his father.

What Lies Ahead for Shuri?

The big question now is what lies ahead for Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright, who assumed the Black Panther mantle in Wakanda Forever and will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters December 16, 2026. She is announced in the cast of Black Panther 3, but Marvel has yet to indicate her role in this new chapter of the MCU or how her journey will align with the introduction of this new Black Panther.

Ryan Coogler, who directed the first two films, will return to direct this new adventure, set for release on December 15, 2028. It’s worth noting that Denzel Washington will also join the cast.

Before becoming the new protector of Wakanda, David Jonsson gained attention in the British series Industry as well as in Alien: Romulus, and Marche ou crève. His entry into the Marvel universe marks a significant step in continuing the legacy of the iconic character made famous by Chadwick Boseman.
