Michael B. Jordan Stars in Vampire Flick ‘Sinners’ — Watch the Thrilling Trailer Now!

The new trailer for “Sinners,” the first horror film by the duo Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, has dropped, revealing a host of never-before-seen footage. This vampire movie featuring Jordan in a dual role will hit theaters on April 16.

After collaborating on Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), and Wakanda Forever (2022), director Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan team up again for Sinners, their first foray into the horror genre.

Set in the United States during the 1930s Prohibition era, Sinners follows Elias and Elijah, twin brothers, as they return to their Louisiana hometown hoping to escape their troubled past. However, they quickly find themselves and their community under attack by a malevolent force led by Jack O’Connell. In the film, Jordan portrays the twins, one of whom is transformed into a vampire, as revealed in the trailer.

A Personal Endeavor for Ryan Coogler

In a vein similar to Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn, Sinners is also a deeply personal project for the director. Coogler explained during a Q&A (reported by Deadline) at the trailer launch:

“Each film I make becomes more personal. With this one, I explored two relationships. One with my maternal grandfather, whom I never met. He passed about a year before I was born.

He was from Merrill, Mississippi, and eventually settled in Oakland. He married my grandmother and built a home where our whole family lived.

The other is with my uncle James. He was from another time in Mississippi, and he rarely spoke of the state, except when listening to blues or sipping Old Taylor Whiskey. Then, he would reminisce about memories.

This film gave me a chance to delve into my own ancestral history here in the United States, somewhat as I did with the Black Panther films, exploring generational lineage.”

Like Coogler’s previous films, Sinners is not just a simple vampire tale: by setting the story in the 1930s Louisiana, the movie subtly addresses the segregation and racist violence that impacted black communities at the time. Coogler weaves a metaphor where the fantastical horror meets historical horror, giving the film an added dimension.

Starring Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, Delroy Lindo, Omar Benson Miller, Wunmi Mosaku, and Li Jun Li, Sinners will premiere in theaters on April 16. Ryan Coogler is currently working on the screenplay for Black Panther 3.
