Marvel’s Agatha All Along continues its mystifying journey, playing with both dark magic and fan theories as it dives into the world of witches and warlocks. This series has kept fans on their toes, especially with the surprising (and constantly shifting) titles, from Agatha: House of Harkness to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Now officially titled Agatha All Along, this show serves as a continuation of WandaVision on Disney+, carrying on Agatha Harkness’s story and adding new twists and turns along the way. Episode 7, titled Death to Guide Us, raises the stakes with the shocking “death” of a crucial character, but is this really the end, or just another one of Marvel’s famous fake-outs?
A Deadly Twist in Agatha All Along
In Episode 7, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and Billy (Joe Locke) find themselves on the ominous Witch’s Road, where they arrive at a foreboding castle. There, they are magically transformed, with Agatha as the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz and Billy as Maleficent. As if that weren’t strange enough, they’re soon handed enchanted tarot cards that must be arranged correctly—or risk being impaled by swords hanging above them.
Meanwhile, Lilia Calderu (played by Patti LuPone), an immensely powerful witch and a major player in the series, is hot on their trail, along with the Seven of Salem, the show’s antagonistic coven. In a twist that could have come straight out of a dark fairy tale, Lilia and her companion, Jen (Sasheer Zamata), arrive dressed as Glinda the Good Witch and the Evil Queen, respectively. Just as the Seven of Salem close in, Lilia activates the Reversed Tower card, unleashing a spell that skewers her pursuers—and herself—sealing what appears to be her tragic end.
Is Lilia Really Gone for Good?
Lilia’s apparent death feels like a pivotal moment, not just for the plot but for Agatha’s coven, which is now free of its biggest threat. However, the MCU has long shown us that death isn’t always final. Lilia’s character, steeped in centuries of witchcraft and possessing powers beyond imagination, might not be so easily vanquished. Known to be over 450 years old, she’s portrayed as a near-immortal force, with a presence that defies linear time. The episode even features a flashback where a youthful Lilia meets her mentor, hinting at an eternal cycle. Her death scene, therefore, might only mark a temporary departure.
For fans, a lasting departure could feel fitting, as her character’s death would rid Agatha All Along of a complicated adversary and open up the story for other narrative possibilities. But if she returns, her presence could deepen the stakes for Agatha and potentially connect with broader MCU plots.
What Does This Mean for Wanda?
Lilia’s role isn’t just as an antagonist for Agatha; she also plays a significant part in Wanda Maximoff’s descent into madness. By hiding the existence of Wanda’s son Billy through a magical seal, Lilia effectively sparked the Red Witch’s rampage. Marvel might want to keep Wanda’s character arc free of vengeance if she returns. If Lilia remains “dead,” Wanda could be reintroduced with a more grounded, motherly focus, embracing the role of a loving parent without the burden of revenge. This would set a gentler tone for her return, possibly aiding Marvel’s transition to its next era involving mutants and X-Men lore.
With the arrival of mutants in the MCU, Wanda’s place in this new narrative could be crucial. In House of M, her ties to the mutant world are central, and maintaining her as a balanced character could benefit the MCU’s development of mutant storylines. Fans familiar with her connections to characters like Magneto know the depth of her potential role. Keeping Lilia out of the picture would likely avoid unnecessary chaos for Wanda, helping her to align with Marvel’s plans for a new chapter.
With only two episodes left in this season of Agatha All Along, fans will soon find out if Lilia’s death really is the end.
