Primarily recognized as an actor in France, Daniel Auteuil has nearly a hundred films to his name. His versatile career spans across a variety of genres including comedy (such as “Les Sous-doués” and “Pour cent briques t’as plus rien”), historical films (“La Reine Margot”, “Lacenaire”), and drama (“Jean de Florette”).

His extensive filmography has earned him no fewer than fourteen nominations for Best Actor at the César Awards, winning twice for his roles in Claude Berri’s “Jean de Florette / Manon des sources” and Patrice Leconte’s “La Fille sur le pont”.

Ventures into Directing

Lesser known are Auteuil’s forays into directing, which he has undertaken five times since the 2010s. His first three directorial projects were adaptations of Marcel Pagnol’s works, reuniting him with the author 25 years after “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des sources”. His directorial debut came with “La Fille du puisatier” in 2011, followed by “Marius” and “Fanny” in 2013.

In 2018, for his fourth directorial effort, Auteuil worked alongside Gérard Depardieu and Sandrine Kiberlain in “Amoureux de ma femme”, based on a play by renowned French playwright Florian Zeller.

Most recently, last year, he ventured into the unique realm of courtroom dramas with “Le Fil”, which tells the story of Attorney Jean Monier. After successfully defending a repeat murderer, Monier avoids criminal cases until he meets Nicolas Milik, a family man accused of killing his wife, which challenges his beliefs and reignites his sense of purpose.
