Did You Watch “Les Visiteurs” to the Very End? Here’s What You Missed!

In 1993, moviegoers who stayed in their seats until the very last second of the credits for “The Visitors” were rewarded for their patience!

“In the year of our Lord 1123, King Louis VI Capet, known as ‘The Fat,’ was battling his cousin Henry I Beauclerc, King of England and Duke of Normandy, at the kingdom’s borders. He was surrounded by brave knights. His men believed in God and the forces of evil.” This line, narrated by the voice of Vincent Grass as a sentinel in armor patrols atop a tower, marks the beginning of the outstanding first installment of The Visitors, directed by Jean-Marie Poiré in 1993.

The Final Scene of the Movie

Many fans vividly recall how the adventures of Godefroy de Montmirail and Jacquouille la Fripouille start. However, perhaps fewer have had the curiosity to wait until the very last second of the credits before getting up from their seats (or turning off their TV).

Those few enthusiasts who took this initiative (at a time when Marvel and Disney had not yet popularized the trend of post-credits scenes) saw their patience rewarded, because yes, The Visitors also includes a little bonus sequence after its credits roll!

After the customary paragraph stating that all characters and the story of the film are fictitious and any resemblance to actual persons would be unintentional, a final little phrase then appears on the screen:

“A shout-out to the fans of end credits!”

Addressed by filmmaker Jean-Marie Poiré to the last die-hard fans in the darkened theater, it is immediately followed by a shot of the director, clad in chain mail, standing on the same guard tower as at the beginning, and waving amiably to his remaining audience.
