Family Flees to Safe House After Trump DHS Leaks Address on Social Media

The Trump Administration Exposed a U.S. Citizen’s Address, Putting Her Family at Risk

The Trump administration has not only mistakenly deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a large prison in El Salvador but also failed to adhere to a U.S. Supreme Court mandate to ensure his return to American soil. Additionally, they have compromised his family’s safety by publicly sharing their Maryland home address, necessitating an urgent move for their protection.

Reports emerged early Tuesday from The Washington Post that Jennifer Vasquez Sura, Abrego Garcia’s wife, along with their children, were relocated to a secure location by their supporters. This action followed the disclosure by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the social platform X, of a 2021 protective order petition filed and later dropped by Vasquez Sura.

Vasquez Sura expressed her fears, stating, “It’s terrifying when the government reveals your home address, where your family resides, for the whole world to see, particularly when this case has captured public attention and opinions are strong. I’m genuinely fearful for the safety of my children.”

A DHS representative did not provide comments on Monday regarding why the family’s address was not omitted from the document, as noted in a detailed report by the newspaper. Vasquez Sura, who has a five-year-old nonverbal autistic son with Abrego Garcia, as well as a nine-year-old son and ten-year-old daughter from a prior abusive relationship, finds herself in a precarious situation.

The New Republic highlighted the security concerns for Vasquez Sura’s family in an article published Wednesday, pointing out the lack of government response to the oversight of leaving the address visible in the public document. This revelation has ignited a new round of condemnation of the Trump administration’s actions.

He was wrongly sent to a prison camp, and then they carelessly leaked his wife’s address. Unbelievable. If these are mere oversights, who is being held accountable?

“The Trump administration doxxed an American citizen, endangering her and her children,” MSNBC analyst Rotimi Adeoye commented on X Wednesday. “This is completely unacceptable and outright wrong.”

Several others voiced their concerns on the social media site Bluesky.

“These fascists didn’t stop with kidnapping Abrego Garcia, they’ve now exposed his wife’s location, forcing her to go underground,” remarked Dean Preston, a leader of a tenants’ rights group. “The Trump administration is terrorizing this family. It’s time to speak out, be present, and resist.”

Jonathan Cohn, the political director for Progressive Mass, also criticized, “The Trump administration is terrorizing this woman.”

Katherine Hawkins, the senior legal analyst for the Constitution Project at the Project On Government Oversight, questioned whether the publication of Abrego Garcia and his wife’s home address breached federal or Maryland state laws.

“This is absolutely reprehensible and a clear act of intimidation,” Hawkins added.

While Abrego Garcia’s family finds temporary safety in a U.S. safe house, he remains incarcerated in El Salvador despite a Supreme Court ruling and a 2019 immigration court decision that should have prevented his deportation. Recently, several Democratic members of Congress have visited El Salvador to support his release.
