Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff Sparks Major Controversy!

A new spin-off from “Grey’s Anatomy” is on the horizon. However, the creator of the medical drama “The Resident” has already criticized the show, claiming that the broadcaster has copied one of her projects!

An announcement that comes with its share of controversies… In the United States, ABC, the network airing Grey’s Anatomy, just announced that a spin-off of the medical drama is soon to be released! But a prominent figure in American TV series is already slamming this project…

“Grey’s Anatomy” Spin-Off Accused of Plagiarism

To give some background, this upcoming spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy (currently untitled) will depict the lives of a team of doctors working at a medical center in rural West Texas. For their patients, these healthcare providers are the last hope before having to travel miles across the desert and solitude to receive care in the city.

However, on social media, Amy Holden Jones, creator of The Resident (another medical drama featuring Matt Czuchry aired on TF1), accuses ABC of outright plagiarism! Upset and bitter, she has spoken out on the social network explaining her stance…

Amy Holden Jones writes about the upcoming Grey’s Anatomy spin-off: “If you want to know what our environment looks like, listen to me. I created The Resident. I sold and developed a pilot for ABC that was a cross between a western and a medical series. Rural medicine was the key element.”

“This is not an isolated case”

She continues: “They loved it and kept the project alive while all other pilots were dropped. Then, they abruptly abandoned everything in March. Now, they announce a deal with Shonda Rhimes [creator of the Grey’s Anatomy franchise, ed.] with exactly the same premise. This isn’t an isolated incident, it happens all the time.”

It’s nothing personal, it’s just business. The quality of my work and what they are developing are incomparable. What matters to them is having her name and everything attached to it. Quality is not a requirement to win“, concludes Amy Holden Jones.

Will ABC or Shonda Rhimes respond to Amy Holden Jones? Time will tell… In France, meanwhile, the broadcast of the unprecedented season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy continues every Wednesday evening at 9:10 PM on TF1. Episodes are also available on the TF1+ platform.
