Harrison Ford Action Flick May Get Sequel After Earning $300M Globally 28 Years Ago!

Harrison Ford might return as U.S. President James Marshall in a sequel to the iconic action movie “Air Force One”.

He’s one of the most iconic presidents in film history, and he might be making a comeback! Harrison Ford could reprise his role as James Marshall, the president from the beloved movie Air Force One.

Last February, screenwriter Andrew W. Marlowe revealed that a sequel to Wolfgang Petersen’s 1997 film had been considered but never materialized. He noted that there is ongoing discussion about the film and the potential for a “remake, reboot, or sequel”.

A Sequel 28 Years Later?

Today, Daniel Richtman reports that Sony Pictures is allegedly developing a sequel, which might include Harrison Ford’s return as James Marshall. This information is still unofficial and should be taken with caution, but Harrison Ford’s return would make sense. It’s still unclear whether this project will be a direct sequel or a reboot with a cameo by Harrison Ford, and whether it will actually come to fruition.

In Air Force One, the U.S. president’s plane is hijacked by terrorists led by Gary Oldman. The president, his family, and his cabinet members on board are taken hostage. However, James Marshall, a Vietnam veteran and war hero, uses his skills to regain control of the plane. The film was a major success, grossing over $315 million worldwide and becoming the fifth highest-grossing film of 1997.

Screenwriter Andrew W. Marlowe told SyFy earlier this year that the imagined sequel would take place aboard an air force aircraft carrier. However, as the production team did not want to repeat the same scenario as the first film, the project was shelved indefinitely.

So, will Harrison Ford reprise his role as James Marshall? Only time will tell. In the meantime, the 82-year-old actor will portray U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming Marvel films Captain America: Brave New World (February 12) and Thunderbolts* (April 30). This role makes Ford the only actor to have portrayed two different U.S. presidents.
