Known for playing Aquaman in DC films from 2016 to 2023, Jason Momoa has joined the cast of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as the intergalactic mercenary, Lobo.
The DC Universe continues to welcome actors from its former shared universe, which aimed to compete with the MCU. This isn’t exactly a surprise since James Gunn and Peter Safran never really closed the door on these actors. It’s equally unsurprising to learn that Jason Momoa will be part of the cast in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Having portrayed Aquaman from 2016 to 2023, Momoa had repeatedly expressed his desire to continue within the universe, even sharing a video about a very positive meeting with the heads of the future DC Universe regarding his future. He often mentioned the character he dreamed of playing: Lobo.
Momoa’s wish is coming true as he will portray the intergalactic mercenary in Craig Gillespie’s upcoming film, set for release on June 24, 2026. Momoa himself announced this on a post that included an interview snippet where he said, “If they call me and ask me to play him, it’ll be a f***ing yes,” followed by, “They called.”
Created in June 1983 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo will make his cinematic debut after appearing in the TV series Krypton. Originally from the peaceful planet of Czárnia, where his bloodlust made him an anomaly, he becomes one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters when he leaves. His superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and invulnerability make him a formidable foe for Superman, and now, Supergirl.
Lobo’s success can also be attributed to his embodiment of excess. From violence to misogyny, coupled with crude humor and language, extravagance is a way of life for him, something that his creators and their successors have consistently exaggerated over the years.
Considering his rock’n’roll portrayal of Aquaman, where he notably rode a motorcycle on sand to the tune of “Born to be Wild” at the start of his second (and last) solo adventure, it’s easy to see why Momoa imagines himself fitting into the role so well.
Momoa joins Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), who plays Superman, and Matthias Schoenaerts, who will portray the villain Krem. At this point, it’s unclear what Momoa’s role will be in the plot, as he might have a secondary role before returning to the forefront in another film in the universe.
Similarly, even though she’s absent from the trailer, Supergirl will appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film scheduled for July 9, which will spearhead the new DC Universe. In this universe, we might see actors from the previous version, including Jason Momoa.
