On August 26th, French audiences will have the opportunity to see “The Dog Stars,” the latest film by the highly prolific Ridley Scott, starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin. Surprisingly, Brolin nearly didn’t make it through the adventure as he was ready to leave after a rehearsal day that didn’t go as planned.

During an interview with Empire, the actor, who had completed filming for “Vanished,” “Wake Up Dead Man,” and “Running Man” before heading to Italy for a rehearsal of this highly anticipated post-apocalyptic movie, shared that the first day had particularly intimidated him.

“Something is definitely off”

Ridley spent all his time telling stories instead of rehearsing. It annoyed me, and I got really scared. I went home, called my agent, and said: ‘I want to leave. There’s definitely something off, and I need to get out of here.’ Thankfully, my agent is a close friend, and he told me: ‘Take a day off.’ I replied: ‘No, man, I know what you’re trying to do. It’s not something that gets fixed in a day.’ And I was right,” Josh Brolin initially shared.

Although Brolin had previously worked with Ridley Scott on “American Gangster” (2007), it appeared that the filmmaker’s method had changed since then. However, Brolin eventually understood how the director was operating now when Scott invited him into his trailer to show him what they had filmed. “It was a really great, dynamic scene between Jacob and me, and he asked me: ‘Does that work for you?’ I said: ‘Yes,’ and then I started to get into it,” the actor recalls.

But ultimately…

And the actor, who plays an ex-Marine in this film set in a near future where American society has been decimated, continued: “It took me about a day or two to really adjust, and then I completely got into it because it was creatively astronomical and dangerously so. It was almost like I was saying to myself: this is exactly what I was asking for, but now that I have it, I’m fighting it, because it brings me absolutely no comfort.

It turned out to be one of the most creative and rewarding projects I have ever been involved in,” Josh Brolin ultimately concluded, clearly pleased that he had listened to his agent and stayed on the set of “The Dog Stars,” which promises to be a dark, epic, and captivating experience.
