Moving from science fiction with The Dog Stars, Ridley Scott is now preparing an adventure film, specifically an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic, Treasure Island. Hugh Jackman will play the notorious pirate John Silver, marking his first collaboration with the esteemed British director.

Joining him is Owen Cooper – the breakout star from the Netflix series “Teenage” – who will portray the hero, while Hugh Grant has also joined the cast. The plot of the story is as follows:

“Young Jim Hawkins’ life is turned upside down the day a drunken, scarred sailor takes up residence in his parents’ inn. Who is this man known as the ‘captain’? Why is he hiding? One night, pirates attack the inn. Jim only has time to flee, taking with him the old sea dog’s secret: a map to an island with a fabulous treasure…”

Release Date Announced

While filming won’t begin until November of the following year, Sony Pictures has already announced the release date, scheduled for November 10, 2027, in France. This rapid timeline is not surprising given Ridley Scott’s known efficiency as a filmmaker.

During the promotion of The Dog Stars, he mentioned having storyboarded all the scenes of Treasure Island to plan where and how he would set up his cameras. The director predominantly shoots his scenes with multiple cameras at once – using up to 11 cameras for a single scene – allowing him to work more effectively.
