She became globally famous as Éowyn in the legendary “The Lord of the Rings” series. Here’s an update on what actress Miranda Otto has been up to.
Miranda Otto gained international fame with her role as Éowyn in “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” which hit theaters in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Since then, she has maintained a relatively low profile. Here, we explore what the Australian actress has been doing.
From Spielberg to “Homeland”…
After portraying the noblewoman of Rohan in Peter Jackson’s epic films, Miranda Otto, who had previously appeared in Terrence Malick’s “The Thin Red Line” and Robert Zemeckis’s “What Lies Beneath,” quickly moved on to work with Steven Spielberg in “War of the Worlds,” alongside Tom Cruise. What followed? Otto became a mother and slowed down her acting career for several years.
Following the birth of her daughter, Miranda Otto stepped back from the screen to return to the theater. It wasn’t until 2007, with the hit mini-series “The Starter Wife,” where she played a betrayed wife, that she made a notable return to acting. Continuing her selective career, she stood out in 2013 in the anthology film “The Turning,” which featured top Australian actors like Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, and Rose Byrne, and returned to blockbuster films in 2014 with “I, Frankenstein.”
A Return to Middle Earth!
After enjoying success in the series “Homeland” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Miranda Otto ventured into the horror genre with a leading role in “Annabelle: Creation.” She recently revisited the horror genre in “The Hand.”
Today, what’s new with Miranda Otto, now 58 years old? The star of Australian series “The Unusual Suspects” and “The Clearing” lent her voice in late 2024 to none other than… Éowyn, for the animated film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.” This return to Middle Earth, almost two years ago, marks her latest professional endeavor to date.
