Joining the ranks of summer 2023’s hits like “Barbie,” this historical biopic directed by a cinematic genius is a must-watch on Netflix…
In the summer of 2023, a fierce battle erupted in movie theaters, a clash that would later be dubbed “Barbenheimer” by online pundits. A year and a half after its theatrical release, “Oppenheimer” has finally made its way to Netflix. This gives audiences a chance to watch or rewatch what is becoming a modern classic by Christopher Nolan, with an impressive audience rating of 4.3 out of 5.
The biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer takes us deep into the “Manhattan Project,” aimed at developing the first atomic bomb in history. The government recruits the brilliant physicist to lead this critical initiative.
He and his team craft a revolutionary weapon whose staggering consequences still loom over the modern world…
Trinity Operation
With its excellent reviews on Allociné, “Oppenheimer” solidifies Christopher Nolan’s status as a master behind the lens. The film portrays the story of a brilliant man entangled in moral conflicts and subjected to a witch hunt after achieving a deadly scientific breakthrough.
Decorated with 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for the remarkable Cillian Murphy, “Oppenheimer” captivates viewers despite its three-hour runtime and a story that is well-known and previously depicted on screen.
Yet, Nolan’s directorial technique ensures that viewers are glued to their seats, especially during the notorious “Trinity test” scene, where all the scientists involved in the Manhattan Project witness the trial of the nuclear bomb.
A true master of timing and suspense, the filmmaker sets up a gripping countdown paired with ominous music that escalates the tension. When the explosion finally occurs in the distance, everything stops: the music, the sound, and even our breath.
To shoot this scene, Nolan and his team opted not to use special effects, which slightly disappointed some fans. While the explosion is real, it doesn’t quite resemble an actual nuclear mushroom cloud. However, this scene must ultimately be viewed within its context, that of a race against time to win the war…
“Oppenheimer,” available to stream on Netflix starting December 21.
