“Beauty and the Beast” is one of Disney’s most iconic classics. It was rebroadcast last night on M6, and we’re about to test with these ten quiz questions whether you’re a true fan of this animated film!
A few weeks ago, with the release of “Mufasa: The Lion King,” we had offered a quiz on the legendary 1994 Walt Disney animated film. Last night, another pinnacle of Disney’s early 90s magic was rebroadcast on M6, “Beauty and the Beast.”
It was a perfect opportunity to present a new quiz on another Disney classic, so here are ten not-so-obvious questions about this animated adaptation of the globally renowned fairy tale. But before you take on the challenge, let’s share some behind-the-scenes secrets.
DID YOU KNOW?
Inspiration
Contrary to popular belief, screenwriter Linda Woolverton was less inspired by Jean Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast” than by George Cukor’s “Little Women”, claiming that there was a lot of Katharine Hepburn in her Belle.
Tribute
“Beauty and the Beast” is dedicated to producer and lyricist Howard Ashman, who passed away before the film was completed. At the end of the credits, it reads: “To our friend Howard Ashman, who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul. We will be forever grateful.“
Voice Acting
The voice of Robby Benson, who played the Beast, was mixed with pre-recorded wild animal growls. This is why the character’s voice changes at the end of the movie, after he returns to his princely form.
Vincit qui se vincit
In the opening sequence of the movie, the stained glass windows of the castle display the Latin words “Vincit qui se vincit” (literally “He who conquers himself will be victorious”). This motto reflects the challenge faced by the Beast, who must overcome his selfish nature to win Belle’s heart.
