Parasite Director’s New Film ‘Mickey 17’ Starring Robert Pattinson Is a Hit!

Members of the Club AlloCiné had the opportunity to watch “Mickey 17” by Bong Joon Ho at a special event attended by the film’s team on February 16, and they were impressed by this ambitious science fiction film featuring Robert Pattinson.

What’s It About?

Mickey 17 by Bong Joon Ho

Releasing in theaters March 5, 2025

Unwilling hero Mickey Barnes works himself to death… literally! That’s what his company demands of him: to die over and over to earn his living.

Why Did the Editorial Team Pick This Film?

It has been over five years since movie buffs eagerly awaited the return of Bong Joon Ho following the resounding success of Parasite, which won the Palme d’Or and then an Oscar for Best Film. The release of this new work by the South Korean filmmaker is a major event as he once again mixes various genres (social critique, humanist fable, science fiction, romance, comedy, politics…) to brilliantly adapt the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.

Ambitious in both form and substance, Mickey 17 showcases the immense talent of Robert Pattinson once again. Playing multiple roles (the “replaceable” Mickeys with very different personalities), he firmly establishes himself as one of the most interesting actors of the moment, both through his range of performance and his choices. He is joined by the couple Mark Ruffalo / Toni Collette (delightfully horrible), the breakout star Naomi Ackie, the reliable Steven Yeun, and the French actors Annamaria Vartolomei and… Anna Mouglalis in an unexpected and surprising role that is best left unspoiled.

Shimsouf – “Absolutely phenomenal! Both in the bizarre and visually stunning universe it presents, and in its strangely contemporary message that resonates like a call to rebellion! Bong remains as impactful as ever, and Pattinson confirms his generational talent!”

ned123 – “Mickey 17 is a sharp political satire criticizing populist and eugenic capitalism (any resemblance to existing characters…). Pattinson is a magnificent anti-hero navigating a world in decline. Honestly, it’s a cinematic experience not to be missed.”

Nath Visuals – “The direction is really top-notch, we’re definitely in Bong Joon Ho territory, it’s successful, impressive, and especially well-executed visually. Besides having superb actors and actresses, the Korean director takes his time to make his film, and it really shows visually with the creatures on this unknown planet.”
