In celebration of the release of “The Piano Mishap”, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jérôme Commandeur, and Sandrine Kiberlain share their most memorable on-set accidents. Try not to laugh during this interview!
From “The Piano Mishap” to… filming mishaps! As Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jérôme Commandeur, and Sandrine Kiberlain star in Quentin Dupieux’s new film titled “The Piano Mishap”, we asked them to recount their worst filming accidents… complete with an amusing slip of the tongue! We dare you not to laugh at the video!
“I broke my nose on a movie set, but it was my fault. I forgot to dodge something in ‘Thieves’. I had a triple fracture. Then at the hospital, everyone was like: ‘I told you she got her nose done.’ I was like, ‘Not at all, not at all, you donkey.’ I knew ‘you donkey’… The producer taking my picture, nose as a boob…” Adèle Exarchopoulos recounts.
A slip of the tongue that Sandrine Kiberlain and Jérôme Commandeur certainly did not let slide!
– Sandrine Kiberlain: “Nose as a boob? People were saying: ‘She got her nose and boobs done!’
– Adèle Exarchopoulos: She made a mistake!
– Jérôme Commandeur: Nose as a boob? That’s huge. Is that a trend from Dubai?
Adèle Exarchopoulos previously discussed this accident during the filming of ‘Thieves’ on Netflix in our columns. In the film, she plays Alex, a sharpshooter. In this action-comedy, three skilled burglars collaborate closely for one last hazardous mission.
In one of the scenes, Alex confronts a man (Olivier Kissita) in a hotel room after a threesome goes wrong. The fight on screen is fierce – especially for him – but it was just as intense for the actress on set. “I forgot to dodge a punch,” Adèle Exarchopoulos reveals to AlloCiné. Result? A triple fractured nose.
“The punch was absolutely perfect, so much so that I fainted, she continues. They had to operate because it was like this [she shows her crooked nose, ed.] and then I was in a cast for 15 days.” When she returned to the set, the entire crew resumed the scene.
Mélanie Laurent, the director of the film, recalls the actress’s reaction after the incident: “We revived her and the first thing she said to me when she woke up was: ‘Tell me you got the shot!’” The shot was in the can, but the director chose not to use it.
The trio did not disappoint. Most of the stunts in the film were performed by the actresses themselves without stand-ins. For the shoot, they underwent rigorous training, both physically and in weapon handling.
A practice that Adèle Exarchopoulos particularly enjoyed: “I didn’t think I would like it so much, it’s even scary to say. Well, it won’t remain a hobby, but I loved learning about the history of weapons and working with the weapons master.”
‘Thieves’ is available on Netflix, and ‘The Piano Mishap’ is currently in theaters.
