Spot the 2 Nods to “The Cleaning Lady” in Blake Lively’s Prime Video Comedy!

On December 24th, fans of the book series The Maid will gather in theaters to see Freidda McFadden’s novel brought to life. The stylish Paul Feig has been tapped to direct the tale of Millie on the big screen.

Feig is currently in the spotlight with the recent release of A Simple Favor 2, the follow-up to his 2018 film. In this sequel, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick) and Emily (played by Blake Lively) reunite on the stunning island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s lavish wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. The glamorous guests are not the only additions to the wedding, as murder and betrayal also make their way into the eventful celebration.

The Maid Knows All

In A Simple Favor 2, Anna Kendrick’s character is wrongly accused of murdering Dante, the husband of her frenemy. She is locked in her room but manages to escape with the help of a maid who was bribed by an FBI agent. Stephanie borrows her phone and the Italian maid asks for it back, explaining, “It has all my secrets!”

This is a clear nod to the second book in the series, The Maid’s Secrets, where the protagonist finds herself in the employ of another wealthy family. While its cinematic adaptation has not been announced yet, it’s highly likely that Paul Feig is considering bringing it to the big screen.

In A Simple Favor 2, Feig directs Italian actor Michele Morrone (known from 365 Days) who portrays Dante. Morrone also appears in The Maid as Enzo, the charming gardener of the Winchester family.

The story follows Millie, a young woman who cleans for the Winchesters, a wealthy New York family. However, her seemingly respectable employer, Nina, becomes increasingly toxic. When Millie finds out that her room’s door can only be locked from the outside, it might already be too late…

Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) will portray Millie, while Amanda Seyfried has been cast as Nina, her employer. Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) plays Andrew, Nina’s husband.

The Maid is expected to release on December 24th, 2025 in cinemas. A Simple Favor 2 is available now on Prime Video.
