After a three-year hiatus, it’s finally time to dive back into the harrowing world of Squid Game. This South Korean series shattered viewership records on Netflix back in 2021 and is now poised to make a major comeback with its second season launching in December.

Season 1 ended with Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae) triumphing. As he was about to start a new life as a wealthy man in the United States, he chose instead to remain in South Korea to track down the game’s organizers and avenge the victims. Season 2 picks up right where the last one left off.

Originally envisioned by director Hwang Dong-hyuk as a feature film, Squid Game was ultimately developed as a miniseries. However, the unexpected success of the show convinced him to plan for two additional seasons, set for release in December and sometime in 2025, respectively.

In Squid Game, indebted individuals participate in childhood-inspired challenges, only to find out that just one contestant will win the grand prize of approximately 45.6 billion won (around 32 million euros), while the rest will be eliminated. In this survival game, teamwork is sometimes crucial, but players must be wary of placing their trust in the wrong person!

In 2022, Squid Game became the first non-English language production to win the Emmy Award for Best Drama Series. The show also bagged the Best Actor award, among other top honors in the United States. It goes without saying that Season 2 is highly anticipated by Netflix subscribers.
