Sylvester Stallone reveals his pick for the best action movie of his career, and his choice might come as a surprise since it’s a film he received a lot of flak for…
In a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester Stallone opened up about the action movie he considers the pinnacle of his long and illustrious career. Given his significant impact on the action genre, his perspective is particularly intriguing.
A stalwart of action cinema, Sylvester Stallone has delivered iconic performances in franchises like Rocky, Rambo, and Expendables, as well as in movies like Demolition Man and Judge Dredd. However, among all these action-packed projects, he holds a special place in his heart for a relatively recent film: John Rambo, the fourth installment focused on the Vietnam War veteran, which he also directed and co-wrote.
During the interview, Stallone explained why this 2008 film stands out as his finest work in the genre. He believes it’s his most genuine film because it powerfully portrays the grim and challenging reality of the civil war in Burma, a conflict that has persisted for over six decades.
“One of the movies I’m truly proud of, which I consider my best action film, is John Rambo, as it addresses what’s happening in Burma, where there has been a civil war for 67 years,” he stated.
A True Brutality
Sylvester Stallone emphasizes that the film’s brutality isn’t gratuitous: “I was heavily criticized because the film is violent. But it IS violent. It’s horrific. There are children being burned alive. That’s what makes civil war the worst of all: it’s suddenly your neighbor who is killing you.”
Ultimately, the actor expresses pride in having brought this project to life, despite initial doubts: “I was really pleased with this film and I never imagined it would make it to the cinema. I thought they would never want to show that.”
John Rambo is available for streaming on Prime Video.
