Every day, AlloCiné suggests a film to watch or rewatch on TV. Tonight’s pick: the third installment of a legendary series starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
In the category of top buddy movies from the world of cinema, the Lethal Weapon series is a standout, featuring four films (and perhaps a fifth on the way?). Great news for fans of the thrilling escapades of cops Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh: Lethal Weapon 3 is airing this Wednesday evening on TF1 Séries Films!
Released in theaters in 1992, Lethal Weapon 3 takes the franchise’s formula—mixing humor, action, and emotion—to new heights. The film sees Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), a brilliant sergeant of the Los Angeles Police Department, gearing up for retirement. However, due to a mishap, he and his partner Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) are demoted to the ranks of regular cops. Refusing to go quietly, the duo decides to independently continue investigating a case involving stolen guns from their own precinct.
While the film once again delights with appearances by the hilarious Leo Getz, played by Joe Pesci, and introduces a fearless sergeant portrayed by Rene Russo, it’s the dynamic duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, more in sync than ever, who steal the show under the expert direction of veteran filmmaker Richard Donner.
The Highest-Grossing Installment of the Franchise
A feast of entertainment filled with iconic scenes (the building explosion after the red wire vs. blue wire dilemma, the frantic chase involving armored vehicles…), Lethal Weapon 3 is also set to the beat of the franchise’s most iconic song: the melancholy “It’s Probably Me” performed by Sting and Eric Clapton.
It’s worth noting that Lethal Weapon 3 is the most profitable film of the series. With a budget of 35 million dollars, this high-energy adventure garnered over 321 million dollars in global revenue and drew nearly 4.5 million viewers into French theaters.
So, too old to watch this great classic of the police comedy genre? Certainly not!
Tonight on TF1 Séries Films at 9:05 PM
