Scheduled for June 18th, “28 Years Later” by Danny Boyle is set to revive the popular zombie franchise on the big screen with an impressive cast. Check out the latest trailer.
It’s one of next summer’s most anticipated films. Amidst a slew of superhero blockbusters, audiences will be treated to “28 Years Later,” the third installment in the zombie saga initiated by Danny Boyle in 2002. Twenty-three years later, Boyle returns to the director’s chair, seemingly more passionate than ever, as evidenced by the brand new trailer.
A Film Shot on iPhone?
The initial footage already captivated online viewers, and the excitement is confirmed with this new trailer. This installment promises to be as intense and frightening as its predecessors. Despite a hefty budget – currently estimated at $75 million – several scenes in the film were reportedly shot using an iPhone 15 Pro Max. This artistic choice reflects Danny Boyle’s ongoing penchant for experimentation.
The plot of this new chapter is described as follows: “It’s been nearly thirty years since the Rage Virus escaped from a biological weapons lab. With a stringent quarantine implemented, some have found ways to survive among the infected. Thus, a community of survivors has taken refuge on a small island, accessible only by a highly guarded road from the mainland. When one of the island’s residents is sent on a mission to the mainland, he discovers not only that the infected have mutated, but other survivors have as well, in a context that is both mysterious and terrifying…“
A Sequel Already in the Can
The script, still penned by Alex Garland, includes a cameo by Cillian Murphy, who appeared in the first film. This new story features Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu, Godzilla), Jodie Comer (The Last Duel), and Ralph Fiennes. The “28” saga will continue with another chapter, apparently already filmed. Titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” the film is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman) and is set to be released on January 14, 2026.
