Woody Allen Reunites With Unique Actor in New Film 27 Years Later!

In 1998, Woody Allen directed Donald Trump (playing himself) in “Celebrity.” Today, the filmmaker expresses openness to the idea of the current U.S. President appearing in front of his camera once more.

Over the past few years, Woody Allen has not been in good graces, caught between the declining quality of his recent movies and allegations of sexual assault towards his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. Nonetheless, the director of “Annie Hall” and “Manhattan” appears indifferent to restoring his public image, as he mentions he’s ready to… direct Donald Trump in an upcoming feature film.

Or rather, to re-direct, since the current U.S. President has already played his own role in one of his projects: “I’m one of the people who can say they’ve directed Trump,” he noted on Bill Maher’s podcast, Club Random. “I directed him in Celebrity. It was a pleasure to work with him, and he was a very good actor. He was very courteous, hit his marks, did everything right, and had a real flair for show business. I could direct him today. If he let me do it now that he’s President, he could be marvelous.”

Is this a tongue-in-cheek and somewhat provocative statement from someone who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 and claims to disagree with Donald Trump on “99%” of issues? Not exactly, because he considers the actor “very good” and “charismatic”: “I was surprised he wanted to go into politics. Because it’s nothing but headaches, critical decisions, and agony. He’s someone I used to see at Knicks games, who enjoyed playing golf, judging beauty contests, and doing enjoyable and relaxing things. For someone to suddenly want to tackle political issues is beyond me.”

While Chris Columbus has expressed regret that Donald Trump appeared in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (a condition imposed by Trump for the crew to film in his hotel), Woody Allen tells a very different story. However, the latter, known for his prolific output, hasn’t had an official project since the release of “Lucky Break” in September 2023. Who knows if this statement, made amid rumors about the President’s health, might change the situation?
