Shocking Trump Biopic at Cannes Features Unrecognizable ‘Apprentice’ Star!

In the midst of the heated U.S. presidential campaign, with the election just weeks away, a striking biopic about one of the candidates is about to be released. Scheduled for October 9 in France, The Apprentice chronicles the rise to power of the former U.S. President and current Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

The title of the film directly references the reality TV series hosted by the politician starting in 2004, but The Apprentice actually focuses on the early days of his career in the 70s and 80s. On screen, the budding real estate mogul is portrayed by actor Sebastian Stan, who is virtually unrecognizable, as the trailer suggests.

For this role, the Marvel star, recently seen in Dumb Money, Fresh, and the series Pam & Tommy, prepared rigorously. In addition to gaining weight, the actor spent considerable time studying the former president by watching numerous videos.

“I had 130 videos dedicated to his physicality on my phone. And 562 videos with photos from different eras – from the 70s to today – to figure out his speech patterns and try to improvise like him,” Sebastian Stan recently revealed in an interview with Variety.

Stan is joined in The Apprentice by Jeremy Strong (Succession, The Gentlemen) playing Roy Cohn, Trump’s unscrupulous lawyer. Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Catherine McNally, and Charlie Carrick round out the cast.

Premiering in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the film directed by Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider) faced harsh criticism from Donald Trump’s team, who even attempted to block its release in the United States.
