Currently filming “Avengers: Doomsday,” Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby will soon team up in a strikingly different genre with “Ruins,” a film adaptation of Amy Taylor’s novel set to release this summer.
He’s known as the Winter Soldier in the MCU, and she’s about to reprise her role as Jane Storm in the upcoming “Fantastic Four,” hitting theaters on July 23. Both actors are also featured in “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is currently in production. Soon, Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby will come together in a completely different context as they star in the drama “Ruins,” which they will also produce.
Based on Amy Taylor’s forthcoming novel, to be released on August 12 in the United States, the plot revolves around a couple whose relationship is put to the test during a summer in Athens through their involvement with a young Greek woman. The film rights were secured by Miramax after a fierce bidding war.
No director has been attached to the project yet, which is slated to begin production next year, following Vanessa Kirby’s maternity leave.
Balancing Blockbusters and Independent Films
For several years now, Vanessa Kirby and Sebastian Stan have skillfully balanced major Hollywood productions (like “Mission: Impossible” and “Fast & Furious” for her, and seven Marvel films for him) with more demanding independent films (“Pieces of a Woman,” “The Son” for Kirby, “The Apprentice,” “A Different Man” for Stan). This strategy allows them to maintain a balance between global visibility and involvement in more personal projects.
Following her role in “Fantastic Four,” where she stars alongside Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Kirby will appear in “Eden,” the latest film by Ron Howard. On the other hand, Sebastian Stan—recently nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “The Apprentice”—is busy with multiple projects. He is set to reunite with Lily James (his co-star in the series “Pam & Tommy”) in the thriller “Let the Evil Go West,” co-star in Cristian Mungiu’s drama “Fjord” with Renate Reinsve, and will soon be seen in Justin Kurzel’s new movie, “Burning Rainbow Farm,” alongside Leo Woodall.
