Over a decade since its final episode aired, “Wizards of Waverly Place” makes a comeback on Disney+ with a sequel featuring iconic cast members.
Nearly 12 years after the series concluded, “Wizards of Waverly Place” has made a notable return in France. On Friday, January 10, Disney+ launched “Waverly Place: The New Wizards,” a continuation of the Russo family’s magical adventures.
Iconic Actors Reprise Their Roles
For this new chapter, David Henrie will return as Justin Russo, who now steps into the spotlight as the main character. Following a mysterious event at WizTech, he chose to set aside his magical powers to lead a normal human life with his wife and two sons.
However, just as he’s settling into a peaceful existence, he’s unexpectedly visited by a young and powerful witch named Billie (played by Janice LeAnn Brown), who seeks his guidance and training to master her powers. Justin then resumes his role to secure the future of the wizarding world.
David Henrie isn’t the only one returning to a beloved role; Selena Gomez, who recently starred in Jacques Audiard’s film “Emilia Perez,” is also making her grand return.
She will once again portray Alex Russo, Justin’s sister. However, to the disappointment of many fans, she will only appear in the first episode to make way for the new generation, particularly Billie, a character who greatly resembles the mischievous Alex.
David DeLuise, who played Jerry, the father of the Russo siblings, also makes a guest appearance in episode 7 of season 1, delighting long-time fans.
