Before starring in “New Life at Ransom Canyon” on Netflix, Minka Kelly first gained fame in the early 2000s through one of the top teen series!
Minka Kelly returns to Texas this week in the new Netflix series “New Life at Ransom Canyon.” This modern western, based on a series of novels, unfolds in a small Texas town whose peace is disrupted by the arrival of wealthy investors and the unveiling of dark secrets.
In this latest series, the American actress portrays Quinn O’Grady, a music enthusiast who has come back to Ransom Canyon after several years in New York. She appears to harbor feelings for Staten Kirklan (Josh Duhamel), a cowboy grieving the loss of two loved ones.
Her Breakthrough Series in the 2000s Also Took Place in Texas
Indeed, Texas is a familiar setting for Minka Kelly, as it was also the backdrop for “Friday Night Lights,” the series that launched her career in the early 2000s. In it, Kelly played Lyla Garrity, the cheerleading captain for the central high school football team.
Created by Peter Berg, “Friday Night Lights” depicts a high school football team in a fictional small town in Texas. The young athletes, some of whom aspire to professional NFL careers, are led by the charismatic Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler).
Initially, Lyla is dating the team’s captain, Jason Street. However, she faces numerous personal challenges, including her parents’ divorce. This event triggers significant changes in her life, eventually leading her to move to Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
More Prominent on TV Than in Film
A central character for the first three seasons, Kelly made only a brief return in season four. During this time, she attempted to transition into film, though without significant success. After a brief lull, she made a triumphant return to television with a role in “Jane the Virgin.”
The following year, she played the superhero Dawn Granger in the DC Comics series “Titans.” She also joined the cast of “Euphoria” Season 2, an HBO production that enjoyed considerable success with viewers.
Her role in “New Life at Ransom Canyon” not only marks a significant comeback but also a return to her roots with the genre that first brought her to prominence in the 2000s. The first season is now available exclusively on Netflix.
