Denzel Washington Charms in Action-Packed Saga’s Third Installment Tonight!

In this installment, Denzel Washington reprises his role as a relentless avenger, this time grappling with the mafia.

Released in French theaters in 2023 with a PG-12 rating, Equalizer 3, directed by Antoine Fuqua, tells the story of Robert McCall, who, having given up his life as a government assassin, struggles to reconcile with his past demons and finds strange comfort in defending the oppressed. Finding a peaceful haven in Southern Italy, he discovers that his friends are under the control of the local mafia. When the situation turns deadly, McCall knows what he must do: protect his friends by taking on the mafia.

This marks the fifth collaboration between Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua following Training Day (2001), Equalizer (2014), The Magnificent Seven (2016), and Equalizer 2 (2018). Equalizer 3, the third chapter of the saga adapted from the CBS TV series that began in 1985, is a highly successful action film. The cast also includes actress Dakota Fanning, who teams up with Washington once again after Tony Scott’s Man on Fire.

A Million Viewers in French Theaters

“We never talked about it, but it’s something I thought of,” says Antoine Fuqua. “When Dakota Fanning told me she was interested, I thought, ‘Ah yes! It’s Man on Fire, years later.’ But I never mentioned this because they are focused on their characters in Equalizer 3 at that moment. But seeing them together, when I saw them on set, I smiled.”

Highly praised by AlloCiné viewers with an average rating of 3.7 out of 5, Equalizer 3 drew nearly a million viewers in French theaters, making it the most successful installment of the franchise at the French box office.
