Wicked Part 2 Longer Than First? Discover the Runtime Now!

The eagerly awaited “Wicked: Part 2” is set to hit theaters on November 19, and the runtime for the film has just been revealed!

Less than a year has passed since the first installment of Wicked graced cinema screens. The blockbuster film, which grossed $756 million on an estimated budget of $145 million, is returning with its much-anticipated second part on November 19.

According to the American cinema chain AMC, this sequel will be significantly shorter than the first part—which had a duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes, just five minutes less than the entire Broadway show including a 15-minute intermission.

The website lists a runtime of 2 hours and 18 minutes for Wicked – Part 2. That’s over 20 minutes shorter than its predecessor. If you found the pace of the first film challenging, this might be welcome news.

What to Expect from Part 2?

While the first part served as a prequel, the second unfolds parallel to the events of The Wizard of Oz, and indeed, we catch glimpses of Dorothy in these scenes. This further fuels rumors of the character’s appearance (portrayed by Alisha Weir, known from Matilda and Abigail), who was merely a silhouette on stage previously.

Officially becoming the notorious Wicked Witch of the West in a land where acceptance of difference is but a fantasy, Elphaba will undoubtedly face the young heroine, offering us a fresh perspective on a story we thought we knew.

As a reminder, Wicked – Part 1 clinched two Oscars out of ten nominations: Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
