It’s been 20 years since “High School Musical,” the iconic series, first premiered on Disney Channel, captivating a whole generation of viewers. The actors from these beloved films have recently shared their cherished memories from the set.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of what many fans, who still know every lyric to songs like “Breaking Free” and “We’re All in This Together,” consider one of the key TV events of the 2000s.
Aired on Disney Channel, the original musical television film directed by Kenny Ortega featured the high school lives of basketball star Troy Bolton and math whiz Gabriella Montez. Sharing a mutual passion for singing, they decide to audition for their school’s musical, which quickly propelled the series into a cultural phenomenon and a staple of pop culture.
“An Amazing Experience”
Two decades later, High School Musical has lost none of its appeal, with millions of fans worldwide still enthralled by its universal appeal. The cast members are equally thrilled about their involvement in the project, as they recently expressed in an interview with People.com.
“I was so young when we made High School Musical, and it was simply an amazing experience,” shared Zac Efron, who played Troy.
“I’m Grateful for It”
“We were having fun, learning, and honestly, savoring every moment together. I could never have imagined it would still mean so much to people 20 years later, or that a whole new generation would embrace it, and I’m grateful for that.”
Vanessa Hudgens, who portrayed Gabriella, reflected on the film’s famous choreography:
“After filming it, performing it on tour, and seeing people recreate it on their social media from time to time, it’s embedded in my mind and body. It feels like it will be forever.”
