Have you noticed the recurring message featured in various spin-offs from the horror franchise “The Walking Dead”?
The horror franchise The Walking Dead continues to surprise its millions of fans. The television adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic books has spawned several spin-offs: Fear the Walking Dead, World Beyond, the anthology Tales of the Walking Dead, and the spin-offs Daryl Dixon, Dead City, and The Ones Who Live featuring Rick Grimes and Michonne.
To link all these series together, many characters have migrated from one show to another. Additionally, numerous nods have enabled fans to connect all these productions, particularly through a message that has appeared multiple times across various spin-offs of the franchise.
A Message Seen Across Multiple Series
In the first episode of the original series, Rick Grimes wakes up in an abandoned hospital following a lengthy coma. Unaware that humanity has been wiped out by zombies, he’s about to find out when he sees a barricaded door with the message: “Don’t Open, Dead Inside”.
Indeed, inside the room, walkers are desperately trying to break through. This inscription has become one of the most iconic elements of The Walking Dead, and many merchandise items have featured this phrase. Since then, this message has appeared in other derivative series.
For instance, in the first episode of Dead City, the inscription is spotted but with an interesting twist: the message is written from inside the building where Negan has taken refuge, suggesting that the danger is now outside.
A variation of this same message was also seen in the series Daryl Dixon. In the first episode of the show, the titular hero played by Norman Reedus enters a building overrun with the undead. His lack of knowledge of French prevents him from understanding the warning message painted on the entrance wall: “Attention Hungry”.
Season 2 of Daryl Dixon is currently available weekly on Paramount+, also included in the Canal+ subscription.
