Bernie Sanders Blasts US Oligarchy in Explosive Fox News Op-Ed!

Bernie Sanders Highlights American Oligarchy in Fox News Editorial

Senator Bernie Sanders is raising alarm bells in a recent op-ed for Fox News readers, stressing that the United States is dividing further into a nation of the wealthy and everyone else. He warns that without a concerted effort from citizens and political figures, the U.S. is on a fast track towards becoming an oligarchy dominated by the ultra-rich, advocating for a governmental and economic system that benefits all.

An Independent from Vermont who aligns with the Democrats, Sanders describes the ongoing struggle as “the people versus the billionaires” in his piece that appeared on Fox News last Friday.

Within his commentary, Sanders points directly at three billionaires—Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg—who have recently shown support for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, criticizing their immense wealth accumulation.

“In our current landscape, the three richest individuals (Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg) hold more wealth than the lower half of our population—that’s over 165 million people—and their wealth continues to grow,” Sanders explained.

Elon Musk, who had previously supported President Joe Biden in 2020, shifted his support to Trump during this campaign season, contributing over $250 million through political action committees to Trump and other Republican candidates before Election Day. Musk’s influence in politics was highlighted when he played a significant role in the Trump administration’s plans to slash federal spending and regulations, including his involvement in thwarting a spending deal that enjoyed bipartisan support.

The companies led by Zuckerberg and Bezos, Meta and Amazon respectively, have each committed a million dollars to Trump’s inaugural fund. They join a roster of other powerful U.S. corporations that have backed the inaugural committee.

While Sanders’ article does not delve into these specific connections with Trump, it broadly condemns the political expenditures of the economic elite, which have been exacerbated by the controversial Citizens United Supreme Court decision.

“In the 2024 election cycle alone, just 150 billionaires have spent nearly $2 billion to secure politicians who will promote their interests and to defeat those who challenge them. These billionaires, who represent merely .0005% of our population, were responsible for 18% of the total campaign expenditures,” Sanders pointed out.

“This is not what democracy looks like. This is not the principle of one person, one vote,” he asserted.

Sanders has previously written op-eds for Fox, including on subjects like the urgent need to address climate change, which typically opposes the usual editorial stance of Fox.

In his latest article, Sanders not only revisits the topic of inequality in America—a frequent theme in his discussions—but also criticizes the billionaire class’s control over large media segments.

“It is unprecedented in American history for such a small number of media conglomerates, all owned by billionaires, to have immense sway over public discourse. Currently, six major media corporations own 90% of what we, the American public, see, hear, and read,” Sanders noted. “This small group of corporations sets the agenda for what is deemed ‘important’ for public discussion, and what is ‘unimportant’ and overlooked.”

He also attacks the concentration of ownership across various sectors: “In multiple sectors—healthcare, agriculture, financial services, energy, transportation—just a few large corporations dictate what is produced and how much we pay for their products.”
