With only a month to go before the release of “The Substance,” Coralie Fargeat’s award-winning film at Cannes, the movie will be showcased at the FIFIB, the Bordeaux International Independent Film Festival. Let’s dive into the lineup of this festival happening next week.
The fall festival season, kicked off by events in Angoulême and Venice, is in full swing! Following the Etrange Festival, TIFF in Toronto, and the San Sebastian Festival, a fresh batch of festivals is set to showcase a mix of gems and often previously unseen films: the Festival de Saint Jean de Luz, which focuses on debut films from France and around the world, the La Roche sur Yon festival, and of course, the FIFIB in Bordeaux.
The 13th edition of the Bordeaux International Independent Film Festival, commonly known as FIFIB, begins on October 8.
The Bordeaux festival has curated a rich program, blending films that have already made waves at other festivals, like Noémie Merlant’s Les Femmes au balcon (opening the festival) and The Substance, Coralie Fargeat’s impactful film, which won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes 2024. The festival will also feature a spotlight on director Coralie Fargeat, showcasing her first feature film Revenge, and The Substance (releasing November 6, 2024, in France).
Highlights will also include focuses on filmmakers Alain Guiraudie (who will premiere his new film Miséricorde) and a retrospective on Miguel Gomes (featuring his new film, Grand Tour).
The official competition for feature films will include 8 films. A competition section dedicated to short films is also planned.
Numerous premieres are scheduled outside of the competition: Planète B by Aude Léa Rapin, featuring Adèle Exarchopoulos and Souheila Yacoub; Leurs enfants après eux by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, Animale by Emma Benestan, Diamant Brut by Agathe Reidinger, and Les Reines du Drame by Alexis Langlois. A tribute will also be paid to actress Pascale Ogier.
