Set to premiere on February 12, 2025, “Captain America: Brave New World” is stirring excitement with its thrilling, action-packed previews that hint at the inclusion of a highly anticipated character.
For Marvel Studios, 2025 is just around the corner. After the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” on July 24, attention will quickly turn to next year’s lineup in the MCU’s cinematic branch.
While this year features just one major film, three – potentially four, if “Blade” ever takes off – are already on the calendar for 2025: “The Fantastic Four,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Captain America 4.” The latter will be the first to hit theaters on February 12, and it’s already making headlines today.
The new footage offers a glimpse of high-octane action, including a dramatic destruction scene at the White House. Directed by Julius Onah (“The Cloverfield Paradox”), the film is set to continue the political thriller vibe of “The Winter Soldier,” focusing on intense domestic conflicts where the hero, in a deep identity crisis (“You might be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers“), challenges his own government.
Particularly, the new President: Thaddeus Ross, a former general now portrayed by Harrison Ford, stepping in for the late William Hurt. This casting change is likely referenced by Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in the teaser, with the line “I’m still getting used to this new look” during their first on-screen appearance together.
Harrison Ford Takes a Strong Stand
Ford, known for his roles in “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars,” is not just a background character, as he prominently features in the trailer alongside characters like the spy Sabra (Shira Haas), the new Falcon Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), and a mysterious figure played by Giancarlo Esposito.
It appears Thaddeus Ross will play a pivotal role in the storyline, and the trailer reveals his transformation into Red Hulk, previously one of the film’s best-kept secrets. This will undoubtedly be a highlight of the movie, triggered by an assassination attempt on the President, leading to his emergency treatment with some unconventional products.
While one might expect a teaser to set the tone before revealing more in a narrative-driven trailer closer to the release date, “Captain America: Brave New World” has already played one of its biggest cards. And it doubles down with its first poster, shown above.
Is this to fully showcase its potential to audiences? Or because it has more surprises up its sleeve? We’ll find out in seven months, at the latest.
