A Look at “The Visitors: The Revolution,” the third installment of the beloved saga featuring Jacquouille and Godefroy de Montmirail, which hit theaters exactly ten years ago.
Ten years ago, almost to the day, the cinematic event of the moment unfolded: the release of “The Visitors: The Revolution,” the third chapter in the iconic series led by Christian Clavier and Jean Reno, known as Jacquouille (but why do we find this character so amusing?) and Godefroy de Montmirail. Let’s delve into this installment, which turned out to be a commercial and critical flop, and consider whether it might deserve a second chance…
Released in 2016, “The Visitors – The Revolution” finds Godefroy de Montmirail and his loyal servant Jacquouille trapped in the corridors of time, thrown into an era of deep political and social upheaval: the French Revolution… Specifically, the Reign of Terror, a time fraught with peril during which the descendants of Jacquouille La Fripouille, staunch revolutionaries, seize the castle and all the possessions of the descendants of Godefroy de Montmirail, haughty aristocrats on the run whose lives hang by a thread.
Released eighteen years after “The Visitors: The Corridors of Time,” this third installment aimed to unite long-time fans and newcomers alike. Thus, the film’s cast includes new faces such as Franck Dubosc, Sylvie Testud, Alex Lutz, Frédérique Bel, Lorànt Deutsch, Pascal Nzonzi, and Karin Viard.
Does “The Visitors 3” Deserve Such a Harsh Fate?
With a budget of 25 million euros, “The Visitors – The Revolution” was a resounding flop at the box office, attracting just over 2.2 million viewers, compared to the 13.8 and 8 million admissions garnered by “The Visitors” and “The Visitors: The Corridors of Time,” respectively. Coupled with a rather harsh average viewer rating of 1.5 out of 5 on AlloCiné, this installment can definitely be considered a failure.
But does “The Visitors – The Revolution” really deserve such a fate? Absolutely not… Because this third adventure, though well-directed, is dynamic, full of gags, and the sheer joy of seeing the unforgettable Jacquouille and Godefroy de Montmirail on screen again is genuinely real. Why not give the film a second chance in celebration of its tenth anniversary? Ok????? (You get the reference, for sure…)
