Clint Eastwood Reveals Western Love Shaped His Oscar-Winning Career!

American filmmaker Clint Eastwood recently spoke out to defend his love for Westerns and discuss other forms of uniquely American art.

Now 96 years old, Clint Eastwood boasts an impressive career as an actor, director, and producer. His extensive body of work has been widely analyzed and will continue to be discussed for decades to come. Recently, one of his sons confirmed his retirement, although another son later contradicted this statement!

“That’s Pretty Much All That’s Truly Original”

Regardless, the director recently released his latest film, “Juror #2,” in 2024. In an interview recently published on Fotogramas (and reported by our colleagues at Filmstarts), Eastwood discussed the Western genre, which has significantly propelled his career:

“I feel a deep connection to the Western. Honestly, America is different from Europe. There aren’t many original art forms here. Most are derived from European art forms. Apart from the Western, jazz, or the blues, that’s pretty much all that’s truly original.”

And It’s All in His Filmography

For Eastwood, only two forms of music truly resonate with him, which is not surprising since he has never hidden his love for jazz. His son Kyle is also a musician, and Clint directed a biopic about bebop saxophonist Charlie Parker called “Bird” (1988). As for the blues, he produced a documentary within the series produced by Martin Scorsese titled “The Blues” (2001).

Regarding Westerns, few actors revealed in the 1960s have as many Westerns to their name as the great Clint. Starting with “A Fistful of Dollars” by Sergio Leone, there are 12, filmed between 1964 and 1992, more than half of which have become absolute classics of the genre.

Although he only identifies three distinctly American art forms, Eastwood has devoted a significant portion of his life to them.
