Dare to Watch the Trailer of This Summer’s Most Anticipated Clown Movie?

Those terrified by the mere sight of a red nose coupled with a face painted white are in for a rough time with “Night of the Clowns,” a horror flick that may become one of the summer’s biggest chills in dark theaters, while others might find it amusing.

Eli Craig, known for the gory yet funny “Tucker & Dale vs Evil” in 2010, stays within the horror genre but appears to take a more straightforward approach this time. He unfolds the tale of a small American town descending into a nightmare when Frendo the Clown, a local legend, emerges and starts gruesomely killing people. While many might be tempted to compare this feature to the new “It” based on its synopsis, the trailer clearly proves otherwise.

Scheduled for release on August 20, “Night of the Clowns” seems more akin to Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” mixing slasher elements with urban legend, suggesting a rational resolution and a film devoid of supernatural elements. Yet, there are plenty of suspenseful moments on offer, starting with the very last scene guaranteed to make many jump.
