Women, Stand Firm Against Trump, Musk, and Hegseth!
In the past two days, I’ve encountered one of the most disturbing statements I’ve read in years—a statement that tops even some of the troubling comments from the Trump family. It’s a quote from Pete Hegseth, a staunch supporter of an unofficial pastor from the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, Doug Wilson. Hegseth, along with his entire family, is deeply involved in this extreme right-wing group. His children are subjected to daily indoctrination at their “school,” where they are taught these radical beliefs.
This so-called “man of God” made the following alarming statement:
“The sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasure party. A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants. A woman receives, surrenders, accepts.” He also claimed that women’s failure to submit leads men to fantasize about being rapists, craving the “erotic necessity” of women’s submission. Wilson went further to say God made women “to make the sandwiches” and argued that allowing women to vote has triggered a prolonged war against the family.
These individuals are attempting to recreate the 1950s housewife archetype, at a time when economic realities make it impossible for many working and middle-class families to survive on a single income, unlike in 1952.
This ideology is alarming and needs immediate opposition. It’s clear what Wilson, Hegseth, and their followers believe: that committing rape pleases God. The ramifications of such dangerous rhetoric are stark: figures like U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, Matt Gaetz, and others who have perpetrated sexual violence might believe they are divinely justified. If unchecked, these men will further weaken laws that protect women from sexual violence, interfere with rape investigations, and try to force women to carry pregnancies resulting from rape. In some instances, rapists have even sought custody of children born from their crimes, with some courts shockingly siding with them.
Women have tirelessly fought for rights we once thought secure. The Trump administration has reversed key protections like the right to reproductive care and pressured major corporations to abandon diversity and inclusion initiatives that benefit women professionally. More than just Wilson have challenged women’s right to vote. In extreme examples in Texas and other states, young women of childbearing age are being denied basic rights, including the freedom to travel and access essential healthcare, as more women face critical conditions outside hospitals—a reality increasingly hidden by state authorities.
Women rallied together in the late 1960s, spurred by a significant era of change. We protested the Vietnam War and played vital roles in the civil rights movement. We refused to settle for subordinate roles like making coffee in polyester suits. The book Our Bodies, Ourselves opened our eyes to essential health and personal information previously inaccessible. We established safe spaces for women to unite. Until 1974, women couldn’t even access credit or buy homes without a male cosigner. With very few exceptions, all doctors were men, leaving women to rely on the progressive few families open to discussing sexual health.
The highlight of the Harris campaign was its focus on women’s rights, though it lacked attention to issues like those affecting women in Gaza, which might have cost her the election. The mantra “We won’t go back” is more crucial than ever. These men aim to impose outdated gender roles, made unfeasible by today’s economic demands created by the wealthiest classes. The economic visions of Trump and Musk are aimed at impoverishing those not already in distress or within the top income bracket. Musk’s fantasy of a society where white women prolifically bear children could only be realized through dystopian means, reflecting scenarios straight out of The Handmaid’s Tale, a prospect Musk himself has hinted at.
Women: refuse to yield! Rape is a heinous crime, not a divine act. It destroys lives and results in the birth of unwanted children. Rapists, regardless of their wealth, status, or ethnicity, commit a profound wrongdoing. Rape should never be misconstrued as a hallowed act.
