In a highly publicized legal case, the Mazan rape trials have been made into a documentary focusing on the bravery and resilience of the victim, Gisèle Pelicot. This film is set to stream soon.
Just two months after the conclusion of the first trial in the Mazan rape case, a documentary detailing the sensational legal proceedings will soon be available on the Max platform in France.
The streaming service has announced that the documentary, “The Pelicot Case: A Trial for History,” will be available starting February 26. The film highlights the heinous crimes committed by Dominique Pelicot against his ex-wife, Gisèle, showcasing her dignity and courage in contrast.
The Horror of the Pelicot Case
“To shift the shame to the other side,” was Gisèle Pelicot’s resolve as she confronted the nightmare of her life upon discovering that for nearly a decade, her husband, Dominique Pelicot, had drugged her without her knowledge and assaulted her.
He also allowed dozens of men to rape his wife while she was drugged and unconscious. The case was blown wide open in 2020 when Dominique Pelicot was arrested in a supermarket in Carpentras while secretly filming under the skirts of several female shoppers.
From this arrest emerged a damning investigation into Dominique Pelicot and the abuse he inflicted on his wife Gisèle Pelicot, a victim of chemical submission and numerous rapes and sexual assaults.
The trial took place last December where 51 men were charged, 46 were found guilty of aggravated rape, two of attempted rape, and two of sexual assault against Gisèle Pelicot. Her husband was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Icon of an Extraordinary Trial
During the trial, Gisèle Pelicot was commended for her courage, resilience, and willingness to share her story with the world by refusing to close the courtroom doors, thus exposing her violators. Her fight for her life and for all women has made her a feminist icon.
As stated in the announcement, “The Pelicot Case: A Trial for History” is a 66-minute documentary produced by ITN Productions and explores the crimes from psychological, legal, and cultural viewpoints, hears voices from the Mazan community, and contrasts these with the dignity and courage of his ex-wife, Gisèle.
The documentary “The Pelicot Case: A Trial for History” will be available on February 26 on the Max platform. It will also air on the ID channel on April 13 at 9:00 PM.
